E-mail Settings

POP Account Configuration
To retrieve e-mail from your POP Mailbox on an EsoSoft server, use the following settings in your e-mail program:

Username (Login Name): username#your-domain.com
POP Server: pop.your-domain.com
SMTP Server: smtp.your-domain.com

Be sure to replace all of the red information above with the correct information for your domain and user.

Please note that our servers require authentication before allowing you to send e-mail via your smtp server. To do this, please be sure that your e-mail program is set to authenticate.

In Outlook Express, you would do the following:

Go to Tools -> Accounts
Select the EsoSoft account with which you are working
Click on Properties
Go to Servers Register
Under Outgoing Mail Server, select: My server requires authentication
Then click on the Settings button
Make sure the following is selected: Use the same settings as my incoming mail server

In Eudora, simply bring up the properties of the Personality and be sure Authentication Allowed is checked.

Why is my domain name part of the username?
There are other domain names hosted on the same server as yours. There may very well be another user with the same user-name as yours on the server. Our server requires the domain name as part of the username so that the correct mailbox can be checked.

Is that really a # sign in the username?
Yes. You should use the # sign in the username setting of your e-mail program. Everywhere else, you should continue to use the @ sign. Some e-mail programs allow you to use the @ sign in the username. But some e-mail programs don't allow the @ sign. All e-mail programs, however, will allow the # sign in the username.

I've created a POP Account via the Account Manager but I cannot retrieve e-mail.
I keep getting a "password error" message.
I know I'm using the correct password.
What's going on?

Most likely, you have not set the username correctly in your e-mail program. The username must be username#your-domain.com. Please verify that your e-mail program has the correct username for this e-mail address.

I'm having trouble sending e-mail. Why?
If you are using smtp.your-domain.com in your e-mail program, there is a good chance that your ISP is blocking you from using any smtp server but their own. ISPs have done this in an effort to reduce spam. We have a work-around that will allow you to send mail via your smtp server.

If you use Outlook Express:

Go to Tools -> Accounts
Select the EsoSoft account with which you are working
Click on Properties
Go to the Advanced Register
Change: Outgoing Mail (SMTP): 25
to: Outgoing Mail (SMTP): 587

And go to the Servers Register
Under Outgoing Mail Server, select: My server requires authentication

If you use Eudora:

Go to Tools -> Options
Click on the Ports category
Change the SMTP Port to: 587
Click OK

In Eudora, if you do not see the Ports category in Tools -> Options, please do the following:

Close Eudora - close the program, don't just minimize the window
Open Windows Explorer and go to the main Eudora directory (where Eudora is installed on your computer)
Now move into the directory named: extrastuff
Find the file named: esoteric.epi
Right click that file and Copy it
Now move back "up" to the main Eudora directory
Right click in this directory and Paste the esoteric.epi file here
Close Windows Explorer

Now when you open Eudora and go to Tools -> Options, you'll find the Ports category (at the bottom).

E-mail Forwarding
If you do not want to download your e-mail from the EsoSoft server, the E-mail Forwarding system will send your mail to any valid email address.

This feature is easy to apply through the Account Manager. You can visit the Account Manager at:

https://backroom.esosoft.com

You will be prompted for your domain name and site password.

Once you are logged in:

Click on the E-mail Menu
Then click on Catch-All Settings
Click the "Forward to" radio button
In the adjacent text field, type in the address to which all non-configured e-mail should be sent
Click the Update button at the bottom of the Catch-All Setting screen

Once you have done that, all mail sent to a non-configured e-mail address at your domain will be forwarded. A non-configured e-mail address is one that is not set-up in the Account Manager (such as, it is not already a POP Account, an Autoresponder, etc.)

Autoresponder
An Autoresponder is an e-mail address that instantly replies to the sender of an e-mail with a predefined message. You write the message that is sent by your Autoresponder.

Autoresponders are easy to create and edit via the Account Manager. You can visit the Account Manager at:

https://backroom.esosoft.com

You will be prompted for your domain name and site password.

To create a new Autoresponder:

Click the E-mail Menu
Click on Multi-Purpose E-mail
Go to the bottom of this page and add the e-mail address you would like to use
On the next screen, click Add next to Autoresponder
Complete the form and create the text that you would like to use for the auto-reply
Please do not leave any blank fields on this form
Click the Add button

The next screen informs you that an Autoresponder has been created and gives you the option to edit or turn on off the Autoresponder.

Forwarding E-mail Aliases
Your Basic Web Hosting service includes Unlimited Forwarding E-mail Aliases.

To create a Forwarding E-mail Alias, please visit  the Account Manager. The Account Manager is available at:

https://backroom.esosoft.com

You will be prompted for your domain name and site password.

Click on the E-mail Menu
Click on the Forwarding E-mail link
Find the "Add a new Forwarding E-mail Alias" box
Enter the address you would like to use
Enter the forward-to address
Click the Add Alias button

To delete a Forwarding E-mail Alias, simply click the box in the "Del" column next to the Alias and click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
